Welcome to LGBT Cancer Support.
We are a UK organisation setup to support the LGBT community, their families and friends affected by Cancer.
We provide support and guidance from initial diagnosis through to survivorship and end of life care, without fear of prejudice, reprisals or discrimination.
We are the first Cancer Support organisation in the UK specifically addressing the needs and concerns of the LGBT community and it’s wider circle of friends or family.
Cancer does not discriminate about sexuality or life choices as it chooses it’s victims so neither do we. We found no UK support targeted at the LGBT Community. So, we provide support which is sympathetic and considerate of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender or Questioning individuals, their partners, friends and families.
Why we exist:
We are aware the LGBT community often feel unable to discuss or disclose their feelings within a heterosexual dominated environment. This is not based on supposition or guess work but from personal experiences within our team.
Research and anecdotal evidence tells us that some patients effectively go “back in the closet” to avoid difficult conversations with strangers who may be administering their care or treatment . Sometimes this is through fear of reprisals and other times because the patient feels this would be less “uncomfortable” for the carer.
Rest assured our team understand your concerns, your fears and your hopes, many of us have been on this journey and in some cases have lost someone very special. We care about you, we care about your loved ones and we are motivated to support you by our own experiences.
